Like the pacer horse—speed, steadiness, and endurance—PACeR drives progress in cell biology research.
At the most basic level, cell biology is the study of the function, structure, and regulation of cells, providing foundational principles for all modern biology and biomedical research. The University of Utah hosts a large number of cell biology faculty and students across the U Health science and main campus. Cell biology laboratories at the U span a wide range of research disciplines, from fundamental biology to translational approaches in cancer, neuroscience, and infectious disease.
Our institution has strong infrastructure to support cell biology research, including centralized core facilities, a longstanding cell biology interest group that hosts an annual end-of-year symposium, and dedicated coursework covering multiple areas of cell biology.
PACeR (Program for Advanced Training in Cell Biology Research) was developed to unite cell biology trainees and mentors into a cohesive cross-departmental program that provides advanced cell biology and imaging-focused training aligned with each trainee’s research, structured mentorship, grant review experiences, and individualized career development planning.
